Timothy J. Meinhart, ASA Managing Director

Timothy J. Meinhart is a managing director of Willamette Management Associates. In addition to his work on all types of valuation and forensic analysis engagements for the firm, Tim is also the leader of our shareholder litigation valuation services practice.

Biography

Tim has performed the following types of valuation and economic analyses: business and succession planning valuations, acquisition purchase price allocation valuations, asset impairment analyses, restricted stock valuations, blockage discount analyses, reasonableness of compensation analyses, restructuring and reorganization analyses, transfer price analyses, merger and acquisition valuations, fairness opinions, economic damages analyses, income producing property valuations, and employee stock ownership plan (“ESOP”) employer stock valuations.

He has prepared these valuation and economic analyses for the following purposes: tax planning and compliance (ad valorem, income, gift, and estate), forensic analysis and dispute resolution, financial reporting, transaction planning (acquisition, divestiture, liquidation, bankruptcy, and reorganization), fiduciary compliance, and management information and strategic planning.

Tim has valued the following types of business entities, securities, and assets: close corporations, close corporation fractional ownership interests, public corporations, intangible assets (including intellectual property), general and limited partnership interests, limited liability company interests, restricted equity and debt securities, preferred stock, proprietorships, options and warrants, and fractional interests in real estate.

He has performed valuation or arm’s-length royalty rate/transfer price analyses related to the following types of intangible assets: copyrights, customer contracts, customer lists and customer relationships, employment contracts, engineering drawings, going-concern value, goodwill, licenses, noncompete covenants, patent applications, patents, procedural manuals, trade names, trademarks, trained and assembled workforces, and training manuals and documentation.

On several occasions, Tim has been accepted as an expert witness. These litigation engagements have related to business, stock, and asset valuation matters and economic damages. Tim has testified in the Delaware Chancery Court as well as courts in other jurisdictions.

Previous Experience

Prior to joining Willamette Management Associates, Tim was a vice president in the Private Business Advisory Services Group of the American National Bank and Trust Company of Chicago. At American National Bank and Trust Company, he assisted middle-market companies by providing valuation opinions for gift, estate, and income tax planning purposes. In addition, he provided valuation opinions and investment recommendations related to nonmarketable assets held in accounts for which the bank was serving as a fiduciary. Also, he provided financial advisory services to business owners and their advisers on such issues as gift and estate tax planning, succession planning, and liquidity planning.

Professional Affiliations

Tim is an accredited senior appraiser (“ASA”) of the American Society of Appraisers, accredited in business valuation. He is the past president of the Chicago chapter of the American Society of Appraisers, and he served on the Chicago chapter’s executive board from 2004 through 2009. Tim has served two terms on the Business Valuation Committee of the American Society of Appraisers from 2012 through 2018. He was appointed to, and served on, the Education Subcommittee and the Technical Topics Subcommittee of the Business Valuation Committee of the American Society of Appraisers. Tim also served on the Board of Examiners of the business valuation section of the American Society of Appraisers.

Tim is the past president and a current director of the Business Valuation Association of Chicago. He is also an associate member of the American Bar Association.

Since 2011, Tim has served on the valuation committee of the editorial advisory board of Trusts & Estates magazine.
